Option Symbology Initiative (OSI)

The Options Symbology Initiative (OSI) will re-construct the symbology currently used in representing traded options. With an effective date scheduled for February 12th 2010, the initiative poses threatening consequences for firm’s infrastructures and the applications that support them. It will clearly impact front, middle, and back office operations, driving the need for technology investments and closely coordinated testing and implementation processes.

The initiative mandates a change in options processing applications to support a 21-digit options symbol identifier within an existing books and records automated environment.
